About

Juniper Objects is a small shop for lamps, tea ware and incense, made by independent design studios in China.

How we choose

We buy what we would keep ourselves. Every piece here was picked one at a time from studios we had been following — mostly small teams, sometimes one person working out of a single room. Nobody pays to be listed, and we don't carry a catalog we haven't handled.

We look for the same things every time: a material used honestly, a shape that holds up after the novelty wears off, and a maker who can tell you why they built it that way.

Everything is already here

We hold the stock ourselves, in Northern California. Nothing ships from overseas after you order and nothing is made to order — what you see is what is on the shelf. When a piece runs out it stays out until we buy more, which is why some pages say there are only one or two left.

It also means the quantities are small. Several of these studios make a few dozen of something and then move on.
