Where do these come from?

Ten independent design studios in China. Each one has a page here with everything of theirs we stock, and the studio is named on every product page. More about how we pick them is on the about page.

Do you hold the stock, or does it ship from overseas?

We hold it. Everything is on a shelf in Northern California before it is listed here. Nothing is drop-shipped and nothing is made to order.

Why are the quantities so small?

Because the studios are small. Several of them make a few dozen of something and then move on to the next thing. When a piece says one or two left, that is the real number, and when it sells out we may not be able to get more.

Are these new, or seconds?

New and unused. The ceramics are hand-thrown, so cups from the same series vary in size, glaze and weight — that variation is the material behaving normally, not a flaw. Photos show a representative piece rather than the exact one you'll receive.

What does incense smell like?

We describe each blend by its ingredients and what it reminds us of, and we leave it there. Scent is personal, and we'd rather undersell it than tell you how it will make you feel.

Do you ship outside the United States?

Not at the moment.
